Bomb squad investigating report of grenades in car in Englewood

Police were investigating a claim of grenades being found inside a vehicle in the Englewood neighborhood on the South Side late Tuesday morning.

A man removing scrap metal from his vehicle in the 600 block of West 59th Street about 11:50 a.m. called police when he spotted what appeared to be two grenades inside, police said.

The police Bomb and Arson Unit was on scene investigating as of 1 p.m., police said. Traffic was closed on 59th Street between Wallace and Lowe.
