10-year-old boy in surgery after being shot by 8-year-old relative

A 10-year-old boy is undergoing surgery after he was accidentally shot by an 8-year-old relative Thursday morning in the South Side Washington Heights neighborhood.

The 10-year-old was brought to Little Company of Mary with a gunshot wound to the side, according to Chicago Police. He is in guarded condition and undergoing surgery, according to a source.

He was shot by an 8-year-old boy in the 9000 block of South Bishop about 10 a.m., police said. The boys are related, and police said the shooting appears to be accidental.
