Major citywide plans to celebrate a Shakespeare anniversary

April 23, 2016, will mark the 400th anniversary of William Shakespeare’s death, and Chicago is making big plans to celebrate the milestone.

In conjunction with the Chicago Shakespeare Theatre, 60 of the city’s major cultural institutions will be presenting a vast network of performances, exhibits and other events to toast the Bard of Avon.

Details will be announced Friday. Among the many participants will be the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Joffrey Ballet, Lyric Opera of Chicago, the Chicago Humanities Festival, the Harris Theater for Music and Dance, the Newberry Library and even chef Rick Bayless.
