General manager Nelson Rodriguez has said the Fire want a new head coach in place by Thanksgiving. If he’s still sticking to that timeline, he doesn’t have much time left.
But there have been some notable names linked to the opening.
Among the reported candidates is Tab Ramos, currently the coach of the Under-20 United States national team and a former member of the senior U.S. national team who appeared in three World Cups. Other names reportedly in contention are Guillermo Barros Schelotto, who was the 2008 MLS MVP for the Columbus Crew and is now coaching in Argentina, and former New York Red Bulls coach Mike Petke, who was controversially fired after taking his team to the 2014 Eastern Conference finals.
Pat answer
Pat Cannone might not be one of the St. Louis Blues’ first choices for a call-up, though that hasn’t stopped him from putting together a solid start to the season for the Wolves.
Entering Wednesday’s game at Milwaukee, the Wolves captain led the team with 13 points on five goals and eight assists. His plus-11 rating led the AHL and he was shooting 38.5 percent.
After Wednesday, the Wolves host Grand Rapids on Saturday night and then Iowa on Sunday afternoon.
Copa to Chicago
According to a report late last week, Soldier Field is one of the venues that will host next June’s Copa America Centenario. The tournament will include the best national soccer teams from both North and South America.
The event is celebrating the 100th anniversary of the first Copa America, which is the South American continental championship. In the past, teams from other continents like Mexico and the United States have taken part as guests of the event.
MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, is expected to host the final match.
