A Horizon Bank branch was robbed at gunpoint Monday afternoon in northwest Indiana.

About 12:30 p.m., a man armed with a black handgun robbed the bank at 2650 Willowcreek Rd. in Portage, according to Portage police and the FBI.

He got away with an unknown amount of cash, and no one was injured, authorities said.

A Lake County sheriff’s office helicopter helped with the search for the suspect, but no one was found, according to police.

“We will exhaust all resources and efforts to locate and arrest this subject,” a statement from police said.

The suspect is described as a black man between 30 and 35, standing between 5-foot-6 and 5-foot-8 with an average build, the FBI said. He was wearing a Jamaican-style hat with fake dreadlocks, black hooded jacket, light blue jeans and tan work boots.

Anyone who was near Horizon Bank around the time of the robbery and may have seen someone matching the description is asked to call Capt. Joe Reynolds at (219) 762-3122 or the FBI at (219) 769-3719.
