Illinois university faculty salaries among best in Big 10

CHAMPAIGN — Faculty salaries at the University of Illinois is among the highest in the Big Ten.

The (Champaign) News-Gazette reports an American Association of University Professors annual ranking of faculty compensation places the central Illinois university 17th in the nation among four-year public institutions in compensation for full professors.

The average compensation for the university’s faculty members is $150,100. That is up from $146,400 in the previous year’s report. Salaries overall at the University of Illinois have increased 2.53 percent.

Northwestern University in Evanston averaged $196,500 for its faculty.

Chancellor Phyllis Wise has announced the university will delay hiring 500 new faculty members by 2020 over concerns about Gov. Bruce Rauner’s proposed budget cuts.

The report also has ranked the university 22nd for associate professors and seventh for assistant professors.
