A man was killed in a crash on the Kennedy Expressway downtown Friday afternoon.

The single-vehicle crash happened about 2:50 p.m. in the northbound lanes of the expressway at Fulton, State Police said.

Ruben Diaz, 50, was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 3:21 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. An autopsy was scheduled for Saturday for Diaz, who lived in the 5400 block of West Fullerton, authorities said.

Traffic was reduced to one lane during the Friday afternoon rush as emergency crews responded, but all lanes and ramps reopened by 4:30 p.m., police said.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
