New Cubs Jason Heyward and John Lackey led Cardinals in WAR last season

After Jason Heyward signed with the Chicago Cubs earlier on Friday, St. Louis Cardinals fans were very upset.

And for good reason.

With the additions of Heyward and starting pitcher John Lackey, the Cubs have acquired two of their divisional rivals’ best players from last year.

The only Cubs player with a better WAR (Wins Above Replacement) than Heyward last year was Jake Arrieta.

Lackey’s 5.59 WAR in 2015 was good enough for 25th best in Major League Baseball.

The two former Cardinals landed deals worth more than a combined $215 million from the Cubs this offseason.
