Woman, man seriously wounded in Back of the Yards shooting

A woman and a man were seriously wounded in a shooting Monday afternoon in the South Side Back of the Yards neighborhood.

About 3:18 p.m., the two were on the sidewalk in the 900 block of West 53rd when someone walked up and fired shots before running away, according to Chicago Police.

The 23-year-old woman was shot in the abdomen and the 25-year-old man was shot in the back, police said. They were both taken to Stroger Hospital, where the woman was listed in serious condition and the man in critical condition.

A 19-year-old man was fatally shot Sunday afternoon one block away.
