The final episodes of Jenji Kohan’s prison dramedy will drop in 2019. No specific date was given.
“As an actor getting ready to say goodbye to a role that I’ve lived with for six years, it’s very poignant,” Taylor Schilling, who stars as Piper Chapman, told hollywoodreporer.com after the finale of season six. “It’s a very kind of surreal time. It’s as surreal as it was when the thing came out of the gate and was so powerful those first few seasons. It’s equally as surreal now to be ending it all.”
In the video, the actresses thanked fans for their support and promised a fulfilling wrap-up to series set in a women’s prison.
Actress Kate Mulgrew, who portrays Galina “Red” Reznikov on the show, said she’ll miss being with a “groundbreaking” TV series.
“Orange Is the New Black” was inspired by Piper Kerman’s memoir about her time in federal prison.
The show was nominated twice for top-series Emmy honors, and Uzo Aduba (who stars as Suzanne “Crazy Eyes” Warren) won two acting trophies.
