25-year-old mother of 3 shot dead in South Chicago Heights

A 25-year-old woman was shot to death Saturday morning in her apartment in South Chicago Heights.

Nicole De Leon was found dead at 9:28 a.m. in the 2800 block of Chicago Road, according to South Chicago Heights police and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office. Emergency crews responded after a family friend noticed her apartment door was open and went inside to find De Leon’s body.

De Leon had three children, according to a family member.

An autopsy conducted Sunday found De Leon died from multiple gunshot wounds to the head, and her death was ruled a homicide, the medical examiner’s office said.

Police were questioning a person of interest Sunday evening, police said.
