Guard Kyle Long continued his work at right tackle in the Bears’ first practice of mandatory minicamp on Tuesday. And he could have more time to impress at the position with tackles Jermon Bushrod and Jordan Mills remaining spectators because of unspecified injuries.
“I know he’s enjoying it,” quarterback Jay Cutler said. “We’ve got a few guys banged up, so we’re moving guys around. I think it’s safe to say he’ll
be on the field at one of those five positions when we open up.”
Veteran Vladimir Ducasse was at right guard at practice. Second-year tackle Charles Leno filled in for Bushrod on the left side.
“There’s a lot of moving parts, and we’ve got some guys in the second group that can play as well,” Cutler said. “It’s going to be just a matter of sorting through all those guys, finding our good seven or eight guys that we all feel comfortable with [on the offensive line].
“But right now, you’ve got to be happy with the way that group is competing out there. With some of the injuries we’ve had, pulling guys out and moving guys to
different spots, they’ve been really resilient, and they’ve done a good job.”
Other injury news
Rookie receiver Kevin White also missed practice, but coach John Fox would not divulge any details on his injury.
“Everybody’s day to day with me,” Fox said. “I’ll meet with the medical people and we’ll make that call. [White will] be out here when he’s ready to be.”
Outside linebackers Willie Young (Achilles) and Lamarr Houston (knee) and inside linebacker Jon Bostic (back) remain sidelined at practice. Veteran cornerback Alan Ball also remains unavailable.
