Rahm serves as officiant for same-sex marriage over weekend

Mayor Rahm Emanuel, a strong supporter of gays and lesbians who has said “marriage equality is the next step in our nation’s march forward,” helped one couple take the next step forward over the weekend.

Emanuel served as the officiant in the wedding of Thomas Lorenzo O’Briant Jr. and David Harris Boul on Saturday at City Hall, according to The New York Times.

O’Briant is an interior designer who designed Emanuel’s mayoral office in 2011.
