Poll shows Emanuel with 12-point lead over Lewis

After taking a beating in a series of Sun-Times polls, including one where Chicago Teachers Union President Karen Lewis had a 9-point lead, one poll has given Mayor Rahm Emanuel the edge.

A survey conducted by San Francisco-based David Binder Research among 600 likely Chicago voters, has Emanuel getting 45 percent of the vote, compared to Lewis’ 33 percent, Crain’s Chicago Business reports. Of those surveyed, 22 percent saying they’re undecided.

The questions about the mayoral race were tossed in as part of a survey on education policy performed for Ed Choice Illinois, a 501c3 public charity that also pushes public policy through the Ed Choice Illinois Action PAC.

From Crain’s:

Broken down by race, white voters split 51-30 for Mr. Emanuel, with the mayor and Ms. Lewis effectively tied among blacks, 39 percent to 36 percent, respectively. Mr. Emanuel also held a narrow 42 percent to 38 percent lead among Latinos, but that lead is within the survey’s margin of error of plus or minus 4.4 percent.

Lewis has yet to decide whether or not she’s going to launch a mayoral bid, but did move up her annual vacation in Hawaii to July — in case she does run.
