Vaccinated Schaumburg resident wins $100,000 — but no Chicagoan gets shot at jackpot this week

For only the second time in the Illinois vaccine lottery’s nearly month-long run, no Chicagoan was among the chosen winners in the weekly drawing.

But a northwest suburban Schaumburg resident is in line for a $100,000 jackpot, along with downstate residents of Springfield and Macon County.

The three were the latest winners chosen Monday in the state’s “All in for the Win” vaccine lottery.

Winners will get a call from (312) 814-3524 or an email from DPH.communications@illinois.gov. They have a week to come forward.

Their names will be announced in eight days unless they choose to remain anonymous. And so far, none of the winners in the previous four drawings have chosen to come forward.

Chicagoans have been especially lucky over the past four weeks.

A city resident was chosen in the first drawing on July 8, scoring the only $1 million jackpot to be awarded so far.

Chicagoans also picked up $100,000 prizes in the July 12 and July 19 drawings. Last Monday’s drawing was the only other with no Chicago winner, although residents of southwest suburban Bolingbrook and north suburban Vernon Hills did claim $100,000 prizes that day, along with a resident of downstate Champaign County.

Suburban residents from Berwyn and Joliet have also claimed $100,000 prizes in the July 19 drawing. Downstate residents of Quincy and Springfield were among the July 12 winners.

Four more weekly drawings are planned through the end of the month.

Anyone who’s gotten at least one shot at least one week before each drawing is automatically entered to win.

A total of $7 million in cash prizes will be doled out, plus $3 million in scholarships.

Two more $1 million are to be awarded in the final drawing, scheduled for August. 26. An additional 28 state residents will be drawn for $100,000 cash prizes. And another 17 vaccinated kids are to be chosen to win $150,000 scholarship through the lottery.

Youths from Chicago and suburban Cook County each claimed two of the three scholarships already awarded.

Giving away cash is the state’s latest campaign to get more shots into arms.

Illinois’ seven-day vaccination average is 27,400 doses a day, public health officials reported Monday, up from an average of 18,400 per day last week — for an in increase of 49%.

Illinois also reported 1,687 new cases of COVID-19 on Monday, down a bit from the 1,741 on Sunday and 2,180 on Saturday.
