A woman was airlifted to a hospital after she was struck by a vehicle Thursday afternoon in northwest suburban Crystal Lake.

The 39-year-old was crossing Gates Street near Second Street about 1:30 p.m. when a 2002 Mitsubishi Lancer hit her and knocked her to the pavement, police said.

She was taken to Centegra Northern Illinois Medical Center in McHenry, then airlifted to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, police said.

The 36-year-old Crystal Lake man driving the Mitsubishi had not been cited as of late Thursday afternoon.

Police continue to investigate.
