Five people were injured — two of them severely — when an SUV collided with an ambulance that was carrying a patient Sunday afternoon in northwest suburban Streamwood.
The crash happened about 4 p.m. near the intersection of Sutton Road (Route 59) and Tallgrass Court, according to a statement from the Streamwood Fire Department.
Two people with “severe injuries” were pinned inside the Honda CRV and had to be extricated, fire officials said. The three people in the private ambulance suffered injuries that weren’t considered life-threatening.
All five were taken to St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates, officials said. Their ages and genders were not released.
Streamwood police were still at the scene as of 6:25 p.m. and did not immediately provide more details.
Sutton Road was closed to traffic between Schaumburg and Gold roads after the crash.
