A day after Secret Service Director Julia Pierson was grilled before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, Rep. Elijah Cummings, D-Maryland, called for Pierson’s resignation — then quickly backtracked on Twitter.

While on MSNBC’s Morning Joe, the ranking Democrat on the House Oversight Committee said he had trouble sleeping after yesterday’s testimony.

“I’ve come to the conclusion that my confidence and my trust in this director, Ms. Pierson, has eroded,” Cummings said. “And I do not feel comfortable with her in that position.”

He also appeared in a radio interview with Roland Martin on NewsOneNow.

“I heard nothing yesterday that makes me feel the President is safe 24/7,” Cummings said. “The President is not well served… I think this lady has to go — Ms. Pierson. There has to be drastic changes.”

But then later Wednesday morning, Cummings had a quick change of heart.
