Two polls paint different pictures of governor's race

One poll has GOP challenger Bruce Rauner with a 6-point lead while another one has Gov. Pat Quinn with a 2-point edge.

A poll released Thursday by Dan Proft for Liberty Principles PAC and conducted by Fabrizio Lee, shows Gov. Pat Quinn has a 41-39 edge over GOP challengers Bruce Rauner. The poll, which was conducted via both landline and cell phones has a 4-percentage point margin of error.

These results are in line with a Rasmussen poll released Tuesday that also had Quinn with a slight edge within the margin of error, at 44-42.

However, a GOP poll, conducted among 1,290 likely voters released Wednesday by Communications Express has Rauner with a 43-37 edge over Quinn. That poll has a margin of error of +/- 2.9 percent.

Other findings in the Fabrizio Lee poll:

• 65 percent of Illinoisans think the state is on the wrong track compared to only 25 percent who think the state is on the right track.
• 33 percent have a favorable view of Quinn, compared to 35 percent who view Rauner favorably.
• 39 percent approve of the job Quinn is doing.
• Quinn has a 12-point advantage with women voters, while Rauner has a 9-point advantage with men.
