Illinois may rank among the worst in the nation among economic performance, but a report shows in terms of wealth, Illinois isn’t in terrible shape.

A WalletHub report released Wednesday breaks down the net worth of all 50 states and the District of Columbia, and Illinois comes in at No. 18. Leading the way is the District of Columbia, while Mississippi comes in last.

To come up with the rankings, WalletHub looked at GDP per capita, income and taxes paid per capita.

But it’s not all good news for Illinois residents — or anyone in the U.S.

“At an income of $51,939 in 2013, the average middle-class household still earns almost $4,500 less than it did pre-recession,” the WalletHub report states. “The median household now makes less compared with how much it earned in 1989.”
