Durbin has double-digit lead over Oberweis in new poll

Sen. Dick Durbin (D) continues to have a solid lead over his Republican challenger, state Sen. Jim Oberweis (R), according to a new poll.

The Reboot Illinois/We Ask America poll has Durbin getting 51 percent of the vote, while Oberweis gets 38 percent. Libertarian candidate Sharon Hanson gets 4 percent, while 6 percent of the 1,086 likely voters polled said they’re undecided. The poll has a 2.98 percent margin of error.

Dick Durbin continues to hold a decent lead fueled largely by his strength north of I-80, said Gregg Durham, chief operating officer of We Ask America. While time remains for Mr. Oberweis to make a move, the fact that Durbin exceeds the 50 percent threshold makes that problematic.

Previous Reboot Illinois polls also had Durbin with leads of 13, 15 and 10 points. A Rasmussen Reports poll at the end of September had Durbin with a 14-point lead.
