Meet Barack Obama, the gum-chewing 'careless rapper'

It’s no secret that President Barack Obama likes to chew nicotine gum, but during his visit to China this week for the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation summit, that chewing has rubbed some in China the wrong way.

When he arrived yesterday, he strolled in, chomping away, and was described by some Chinese bloggers as an “an idler” or a “careless rapper.”

“We made this meeting so luxurious, with singing and dancing, but see Obama, stepping out of his car chewing gum like an idler,” wrote Yin Hong, a professor of journalism at Beijing’s Tsinghua University, on Weibo, China’s Twitter knockoff.
