Some celebrities don’t necessarily believe in practicing what they preach.
Last month, Rock The Vote released a public service announcement where they explainedg why they were voting in the midterms. But there’s one problem. Those appearing in the parody of Lil Jon’s “Turn Down For What” didn’t vote in the last midterm election, according to a report from The Washington Post.
Records obtained by The Washington Post indicates there are five people definitely on the naughty non-voting list:
- “Girls” actress Lena Dunham
- “Orange is the New Black” actress Natasha Lyonne
- “Rich Kids of Beverly Hills” star E.J. Johnson
- Actor Darren Criss
- Comedian Whoopi Goldberg
There were six others in the PSA that the newspaper wasn’t able to get voting records on, including Lil Jon.
While Rock The Vote said it makes sure its spokespeople are registered voters, it doesn’t verify whether or not they’ve actually voted.
Rock The Vote’s approach is forward-looking, said Audrey Gelman, a spokeswoman for the group, in an e-mail to The Washington Post. The talent who participate in our campaigns are registered to vote and have pledged to turn out this Tuesday and in upcoming elections. We believe individuals who have missed opportunities to vote in the past should not be disqualified from committing to participate in the political process in the future, and helping spread a positive message of civic engagement.
