We already know that compared to other states, Illinois isn’t very dependent on the federal government. And some new data shows that we also have one of the smallest percentage of our workforce on government payrolls.

Some data from Bloomberg has Illinois ranked No. 44 on the list, with 14.7 percent of our workforce in government. Washington D.C. is the obvious leader at 31.7 percent, followed by Wyoming at 25.5 percent.

Take a tour across the country to see who’s getting fat off the government’s back. The darker the color, the higher the percentage of the workforce is in government, which technically is defined as “percent of employees on nonfarm payrolls who are employed by the government.”
