Rand Paul: Send five Democrats to Mexico for soldier's release

Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) says he’s “a little bit annoyed” with President Barack Obama, and has a suggestion to help bring back a Marine being detained in Mexico.

“Mr. President, you love to trade people,” Paul said Friday at the Texas GOP convention, according to Politico. “Why don’t we set up a trade? But this time, instead of five Taliban, how about five Democrats? I’m thinking John Kerry, Hillary Clinton, Nancy Pelosi, couldn’t we send them to Mexico?”

Paul has been critical of the deal that released five Guantanamo detainees for the release of Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, saying the swap was not only against he law, but just flat out wrong.

But was Paul serious about shipping Kerry, Clinton and Peliso south?

After the speech, he clarified.

“It was a joke,” Paul said. “Except for Nancy Pelosi, I was serious about her.”
