Rep. Louie Gohmert, R-Texas, and Rep. Ted Yoho, R-Florida are challenging House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, and one of Boehner’s allies is blasting their moves.
Rep. Tom Cole, R-Oklahoma, was on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” on Monday and said their attempts to take over the speaker positions are “very disappointing” and “pretty unprofessional.”
Cole also brushed off the two, saying “I don’t think they’re very serious.”
“They’re pretty disappointing in the sense that anyone who wanted to run could have run in the conference elections and none of them did,” Cole said of the challenges by Gohmert and Yoho. “So by going out and not voting for the conference choice, you’re not attacking John Boehner, you’re really attacking the Republican conference that you say you’re part of. I find it frankly pretty unprofessional.”
When the vote is taken Tuesday, at least 29 House Republicans would have to bail on Boehner for him to lose another term as speaker. The Washington Post is keeping the running tally of who has announced their opposition for Boehner.
