Reports: Vikings COO Kevin Warren to be next Big Ten commissioner

He’ll succeed Jim Delany in 2020 and become first black commissioner of a Power Five conference.

Vikings chief operating officer Kevin Warren is expected to be introduced Tuesday as Big Ten commissioner Jim Delany’s successor, according to multiple reports. Warren, 55, would become the first black commissioner of a Power Five conference when he replaces Delany, who plans to retire in 2020 after 30 years with the league.

Warren has spent 21 seasons working in the NFL, including the last 14 with the Vikings. He’s the highest-ranking black executive working on the business side of an NFL franchise.

Big Ten officials are scheduled to announce Delany’s replacement at 11 a.m.
