Joe Maddon brings vacation to Pedro Strop’s locker

Cubs manager Joe Maddon felt relief pitcher Pedro Strop needed a day off. When Strop wasn’t able to go to the beach Sunday, Maddon brought the beach to him.

When the righty walked into the Cubs clubhouse Sunday, he was met by a “tropical resort” fit for a … toddler.

Maddon said that Strop would be avoided at all costs Sunday after appearing in each of the first two games of the latest series with the Cardinals.

From ESPN:

I wanted to make it emphatic that he was not playing today, Maddon said.

This season, Strop has a 2.95 ERA over his 64 innings of work. He also is in third in the NL in holds with 26.
