24 marathon runners taken to hospitals

Twenty-four runners in the 2014 Chicago Marathon were taken to hospitals Sunday, the race’s medical director said.

Two runners needed advanced care, said George T. Chiampas, the marathon’s medical director.

A 29-year-old man required CPR on the course and was taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center, Chiampas said.

A 59-year-old man had health trouble near 13th Street and Michigan Avenue, Chiampas said. That man was taken to Mercy Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
