Vernell Cauley, 35, of Madison, faces felony charges of obstructing justice, promoting prostitution, and being a fugitive from justice, according to a statement from the Lake County sheriff’s office.

Cauley was pulled over by sheriff’s police on near northbound I-94 and Route 120 near Gurnee about 2 p.m. Monday, and provided a false ID to avoid arrest on a Wisconsin Department of Corrections warrant, police said.

The officers learned through questioning that Cauley had posted Backpage.com ads for the two females in the vehicle, and was acting as their pimp, according to the statement.

He was also charged with misdemeanor unlawful possession of cannabis and driving while license suspended.

Bond was set at $50,000 for Cauley, who is next scheduled to appear in court Oct. 21 in Waukegan.
