Two charged with robbing teenage girl of her marijuana

(BATAVIA) A man and a woman were charged with attacking and robbing a 16-year-old girl of her marijuana in west suburban Batavia last week.

The girl was walking in the 1000 block of Pine Street about 8 p.m. Oct. 7 when the two suspects – both acquaintances – exited a dark-colored vehicle and began striking the girl in an effort to remove her belongings, according to a statement from Batavia police.

The two suspects, both 21, removed a bag of marijuana from the girl and then drove off in their vehicle, police said. No other items were reported stolen.

Desiree L. Smith and Tanner J. Smith, both of the 700 block of Van Buren in Batavia, were arrested Thursday and each charged with felony robbery, felony mob action and two counts of misdemeanor battery, the statement said.

Issues regarding the possession of cannabis by the girl are being handled at the local level, police said.
