Men rob bar, exchange fire with off-duty PO in East Hazel Crest

(EAST HAZEL CREST) Gunshots were exchanged between an off-duty police officer and two men in an armed robbery in south suburban East Hazel Crest Thursday.

Two armed men entered Beano’s Tavern, 17308 S. Fisk, and told everyone inside to get on the floor, according to a statement from East Hazel Crest Police. The men then proceeded to rob the bar, police said.

An off-duty police officer was at the scene and shots were exchanged, police said. No injuries were reported.

The men fled the area and entered a dark colored Audi, police said. The vehicle may have sustained damage during the gunfire exchange, police said.

Both men are about 6-feet-tall and were wearing dark colored hoodies and jeans, police said. One suspect had a mask covering a portion of his face.
