Police chase ends when van crashes into South Side building

A police chase that started in Englewood ended when a minivan crashed into a building in Greater Grand Crossing on the South Side.

Officers spotted the possibly stolen vehicle about 8:40 p.m. in the 7000 block of South Halsted, police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer said.

The minivan sped off when police tried to curb the vehicle, and officers pursued it about a mile-and-a-half eastbound to the 0-100 block of East 72nd Street, where it crashed into a building, police said.

No one was hurt in the chase or crash, police said.

The driver of the minivan, an 18-year-old man, was taken into custody at the scene. Charges were pending early Wednesday.
