(LOCKPORT) A 16-year-old boy was killed in a drive-by shooting Thursday afternoon a block away from his home in southwest suburban Lockport.

Latray Wright was walking with a friend about 4 p.m. in the 2300 block of Fairmont Avenue when a light-blue vehicle pulled up and someone inside opened fire, Will County Deputy Chief Ken Kaupas said.

Wright, of the 2200 block of Fairview Avenue in Lockport, was shot multiple times, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

He was taken to Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox, and later airlifted to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead at 11:55 p.m., authorities said. Wright’s friend was not injured in the shooting.

An autopsy performed Saturday found Wright died of multiple gunshot wounds and his death was ruled a homicide, the medical examiner’s office said.

Kaupas said the shooting may be gang-related.

As of 6 p.m. Saturday, no one had been charged in connection with the shooting as the Will County Sheriff’s office investigates.
