National Oatmeal Day brings free oats to Oak Street

SHARE National Oatmeal Day brings free oats to Oak Street

It’s National Oatmeal Day on Oct. 29, and there are a few ways to enjoy the whole grain breakfast.

Quaker Oats will be on Oat Street (get it?) between State Street and Michigan Avenue handing out free Instant Quaker Oatmeal Cups and Quaker Real Medleys Oatmeal+ cups to commuters as they make their way to work.

Oats are a good source of soluble fiber, according to the Mayo Clinic. This fiber reduces bad cholesterol by reducing its absorption into the bloodstream. Five or ten grams of soluble fiber a day decreases your total cholesterol, according to the clinic, and 1 1/2 cups of cooked oatmeal has about 6 grams of fiber.

Jamba Juice is also celebrating National Oatmeal Day with discounted oatmeal. Jamba Juice’s organic, steel cut oats are cooked with soy milk and come with a variety of toppings. With a coupon, the oatmeal is $2 from Oct. 29 through Nov. 3.
