Man fatally shot in Chatham

A man who was fatally shot in the Chatham neighborhood on the South Side Monday evening has been identified.

About 5:35 p.m., 34-year-old Darryl Owens Jr., of the 7300 block of North Damen, was walking on the sidewalk in the 800 block of East 87th Street when someone emerged from a gangway and shot him in the abdomen and left leg, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead at 11:50 p.m., according to the medical examiner’s office.
