Yet another big project for Neil Patrick Harris

Neil Patrick Harris certainly has a very full slate of projects these days. The actor, who recently was announced as the Oscar host for next February, is also going to be the host of a new NBC show.

Harris will be the frontman for a new American version of the popular British variety show, “Saturday Night Takeaway.” The network has announced it had given a 10-episode initial order for the show, which will have a different name and likely will not be broadcast on Saturday nights. The program will air live and originate from New York. It is expected to bow in the late winter or early spring of next year.

This announcement supports NBC executives’ long-held desire to air a variety show, believing the time is right to bring back that format. In addition to the new Harris program, NBC is also planning to greenlight more episodes of “The Maya Rudolph Show,” either as a weekly series or a series of special, starring the former “Saturday Night Live” star. Rudolph’s debut show aired May 20, following “The Voice.”
