Man charged with fatal shooting during South Side carjacking

A man has been charged with fatally shooting another man during a carjacking earlier this year in the Ashburn neighborhood on the South Side.

Geno Paget, 31, faces felony counts of murder, armed robbery and aggravated vehicular hijacking in connection with the attack that happened about 10:25 p.m. on May 27, police announced early Wednesday.

Paul Pyron, 21, was in a black Ford Expedition in the 2300 block of West 80th Street when Paget and another person walked up, shot Pyron in the chest and drove off in the SUV, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Pyron, of the 1400 block of West 77th, was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead at 11:02 p.m., authorities said.

Paget, of the 5700 block of South Damen, is scheduled to appear in bond court Wednesday.
