A man was found dead inside a vacant home in the West Garfield Park neighborhood late Wednesday, police said.

About 10:50 p.m., officers found the 37-year-old lying face-down in a pool of blood inside a home in the 4300 block of West Lexington, police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer said.

Billy Washington, 37, of the 5000 block of West Gladys, was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:30 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. He lived in the 5000 block of West Gladys, authorities said.

It wasn’t immediately clear whether he had been shot, police said. An autopsy Thursday was inconclusive pending further studies.

Area North detectives initially were conducting a homicide investigation, but as of 7 a.m. it was listed as a death investigation.
