Jon Stewart tears into Nancy Pelosi over proxy vote denial

Jon Stewart has three words for House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-California: “You should go.”

Stewart spent a considerable amount of time Tuesday night on “The Daily Show” tearing into Pelosi for how she handled Rep. Tammy Duckworth’s request to vote by proxy in this week’s Democratic leadership elections — where Pelosi was re-elected.

“You are a recognized champion of working women and voting rights,” Stewart said.

Duckworth, who is pregnant and on doctor’s orders to not travel, was denied the proxy vote because Democrats said it would set a precedent.

“You (are) supressing the vote, of a minority pregannt woman who is a wounded war veteran; she is everything you supposedly stand for, stuffed into one individual,” Stewart said. “She is a Democratic, demographic Turduckworth. Why would you do this?”

It just happened that Duckworth wasn’t supporting Pelosi’s pick for the House Energy Commerce Committee, California Rep. Anna Eschoo. On Wednesday, Democrats went against Pelosi and instead chose New Jersey Rep. Frank Pallone.
