Loyola led second-place Downers North by 20 points heading into the final event of the girls swimming and diving state finals on Saturday.
The only thing that could have kept the Ramblers from winning their first state team championship in program history was a disqualification in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Loyola coach Mike Hengelmann told that to the members of the relay team — junior Maria Kyle, sophomore Ella Tierney, sophomore Olivia Andrew and senior Grace Tierney — before the race.
