Don’t expect Lance Briggs to play against the Detroit Lions. The veteran linebacker said during “The Lance Briggs Show” late Tuesday on Comcast SportsNet that his groin injury may keep him out a few weeks.
Briggs also seemed to indicate that the Bears’ Dec. 15 matchup against the New Orleans Saints could be when he returns. He missed three games earlier this season with sore ribs.
Coach Marc Trestman did not offer an update on Briggs when he met the media on Tuesday.
Briggs left the Bears’ win against the Buccaneers on Sunday late in the second quarter. He was injured away from the play when the Bucs converted a third-and-23 with a 27-yard pass from quarterback Josh McCown to receiver Vincent Jackson.
On replays, Briggs appeared to collide with a Bucs receiver Mike Evans and cornerback Tim Jennings and then stumbled to the ground. He then struggled to get off the field under his own power.
With Briggs out, the Bears turned to Jon Bostic at weak-side linebacker in the base defense and Bostic and Christian Jones in nickel situations. The duo is expected to handle the same roles against the Lions.
