A man fatally shot in the East Garfield Park neighborhood Tuesday night has been identified.

Darrell Tolbert, 36, was found shot in the head and chest in the 600 block of North Avers at 7:17 p.m., according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Emergency crews treated him for his injuries at the scene, but he later died, police said.

Tolbert, of the 800 block of West 78th Street, was pronounced dead at the scene, the medical examiner’s office said.

An autopsy Wednesday found he died of multiple gunshot wounds and ruled his death a homicide, the medical examiner’s office said.
