Walken puts his ‘Hook’ in musical role

Veteran actor and Oscar winner Christopher Walken has been tapped to play Captain Hook in the live musical special of “Peter Pan” NBC is planning to broadcast in December — much like it did last year with “The Sound of Music,” starring Carrie Underwood.

Walken’s casting was announced Sunday at the semi-annual Television Critics’ Association press tour in Los Angeles.

Walken was the first and only cast member to be announced so far.

In a statement, the actor said, “I started my career in musicals and it’s wonderful after all this time, at this point in my career, to be in this classic musical I watched as a child — and to work with [producers] Neil Meron and Craig Zadan again after ‘Hairspray.’ It’s a chance to put on my tap shoes again.”
