There may be some growing pains with the Lincoln-Way Co-op squad season but it appears the team is heading in the right direction.

In the 2013 portion of the campaign, three underclassmen have put up the best all-around numbers for the squad and since they figure to be around awhile, that should bode well for the team’s future.

Junior Shelby Wiktor was the team’s top scorer at the Homewood-Flossmoor meet Dec. 21 with a 32.950. Sophomore Mallory Winter was the top scorer at Conant the previous week with a 32.8.

Another young athlete poised to make some noise is freshman Kara Auchstetter. She hasn’t been too far behind her more experienced teammates. At H-F, she was right behind Witkor with a 32.6. At Conant, she was just shy of Winter with a 32.3.

The team will open the 2014 portion of the schedule when it hosts its own invitational on Saturday.
