T.F. South’s offensive line paved the way for 388 yards and five touchdowns on the ground as South spanked rival T.F. North 42-8 in Calumet City on Friday.

Saleem Sanford rushed nine times for 135 yards and two touchdowns, and Joe Young added 113 yards and a score.

The pair routinely dashed for huge gains behind left tackle Sam Kessler, as the Rebels (3-1, 2-0) picked up 10-plus yards on 13 rushing plays.

“They were awesome,” Sanford said of his line. “When I got the ball, I could see the holes develop. Big Sam told me to keep following him, so I did.”

The win sends the the Mushroom-Wooden Shoe Trophy back to Lansing — North won 16-14 in OT last season — for the 21st time over the last 24 meetings.

“It was devastating to lose to North last season, so it feels great to get the trophy back,” Sanford said. “I’d been thinking about this game for the last year.”

North (1-3, 0-2) registered 20 yards from scrimmage in the first half and finished with 117 total. Forty-three of those came on a late touchdown heave from Davion Sylvester to Nikita Smith Jr.

Drakkar Frazier recorded two interceptions for a stout South defense.
