Lyons BBQ honors ball boy’s memory

This year’s Blue and Gold preseason football scrimmage at Lyons will feature an added bonus as the LT Pride Club will hold the Jimmy Reynolds Tailgate and BBQ before the games from 4-8 p.m. Aug. 17 at Bennett Field in Western Springs.

The event honors the memory of the program’s former ball boy (pictured right) and No. 1 fan, who died in 2006.

“He served the football program for many years and always had LT in his heart,” Lyons coach Kurt Weinberg said.

Lyons, which has reached the Class 8A state quarterfinals the last two years, will hold scrimmages for freshmen at 5 p.m., sophomores at 6 p.m. and varsity at 7 p.m.

A $10 donation provides a burger, brat, chips, drink and desert. Tickets may be purchased from a Lyons player or at the gate.

“After Jimmy’s passing, the Pride Club started a spaghetti dinner to raise funds for scholarships awarded to senior football players in the program,” said Pride Club chairman Jennifer Ostrowski. “The Pride Club has raised $30,000 since 2007 for post high school education.”
