LAUREN GUIAO, BUFFALO GROVE FRESHMAN HOW SHE GOT TO STATE Guiao played both sides of Buffalo Grove Golf Course consistently at the Class AA Buffalo Grove Sectional Monday, firing a 39 on both the front and back nines for a round of 78. After shooting a 79 in the regional round, Guiao has broken 80 in the first two state series rounds of her career. THE SKINNY The younger sister of Bison senior golfer Amber Guiao, Lauren Guiao can stroke it off the tee and has “one of the prettiest golf swings you’ll ever see,” according to coach Matt Myers. Her 18-hole average this season was 79, improving with each round. BY THE NUMBERS 1999. Before Lauren Guiao, that was the last year Buffalo Grove qualified a golfer for the state meet whose name wasn’t Grace Kil. From 2009-12, Kil made it every year. At the 1999 state tournament, Shannon Byrne fired a two-day score of 169, finishing in a three-way tie for 18th.
