Hoffman Estates bank robbed for second time in a month

(HOFFMAN ESTATES) A northwest suburban bank was robbed Tuesday morning for the second time in less than a month, but authorities say it’s too soon to know if it was the same suspect.

About 8:45 a.m., a man walked into the Hoffman Estates Community Bank at 2200 W. Higgins Rd. and passed a note to the teller, according to Hoffman Estates police and the FBI.

The teller complied and the man ran out northbound, authorities said. No weapon was displayed and no one was hurt.

The suspect is described as a light-skinned black male, about 6-foot-4 with a thin build, authorities said.

He was wearing an orange hooded pullover sweat jacket with dark-colored drawstrings and matching orange sweat pants, black gym shoes and black gloves, according to the FBI. He kept the hood of the jacket up and wore a black ski mask that exposed only his eyes and nose. He carried a black satchel.

The same Hoffman Estates bank was robbed less than a month ago, according to the FBI.

That robbery happened a few minutes before 9 a.m. on Dec. 15. A suspect walked into the bank and passed a note to the teller, who gave him an undisclosed amount of cash.

That suspect was also described as a 6-foot-4 black male with a thin build.

FBI spokeswoman Joan Hyde said it’s “too early to say if the robber might be the same individual.”

The FBI is investigating both robberies with Hoffman Estates police.
