Kyle Shanahan could join John Fox with Bears

With the Bears interviewing veteran coach John Fox at Halas Hall on Wednesday, there will undoubtedly be questions about his coaching staff.

And Fox could have an intriguing name for them to consider.

According to a source familiar with the Bears’ coaching search, former Texans, Redskins and Browns offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan could be coming with Fox. Other media outlets also have reported about Fox’s connection to Shanahan.

Shanahan, 35, is available after he resigned from the Browns, a organization that was rampant with dysfunction because of quarterback Johnny Manziel’s situation and other publicized issues.

Shanahan has seven years of experience in charge of offenses.

In 2008 and 2009, the Texans’ offenses finished third and fourth in total offense, respectively, under Shanahan.

In 2010, Shanahan left the Texans to join his father, Mike, with the Redskins. In 2012, the Redskins offense was fourth in points and fifth in yards as quarterback Robert Griffin III became rookie of the year. Shanahan adjusted to Griffin’s talents, implementing pistol formations and the zone-read option.

The arrival of Shanahan could be perceived as a vote of confidence for quarterback Jay Cutler, who was drafted by Mike Shanahan with Broncos. Kyle Shanahan, of course, has been heavily influenced by his father, whether it’s zone-running schemes or play-action fakes.
